Whimsical Wings Event is a Natural Wonder

Elachee Nature Science Center invites the community to the 2016 Flights of Fancy benefit and auction on May 6 to celebrate spring and support children, nature education and conservation.

April 27, 2016 (Gainesville, Ga.) – Elachee Nature Science Center will host the 16th Annual Flights of Fancy spring benefit and auction on Friday, May 6, 2016 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Party-goers will gather for what has become a favorite, casual evening among the Nature Center’s friends to show their love and support of Elachee and its missionFlights of Fancy spring benefit, patio dinner and auction at Elachee Nature Science Center on Friday, May 6, 2016 from 6:30-9 p.m.

Flights of Fancy has a legacy of incredible collaboration among devoted Elachee volunteers, its Board of Trustees, a giving community and staff. Event Co-Chair and Elachee Trustee Dr. Jane White shares, “The great thing about Flights is that it’s like Elachee – all about the outdoors and celebrating creativity. It’s so different from other fund raising events. You can come out to support nature education and as a bonus, find a perfect Mother’s Day gift!”

This laid back evening will feature a delightful chef-prepared, ‘fresh local’ dinner on the breathtaking patio and balcony at the Elachee Visitor Center. The event’s silent and live auctions will showcase an eclectic line-up of whimsical, one-of-a-kind treasures for outdoor entertaining along with garden and nature pieces artfully crafted by community members ranging from local high school students to acclaimed artists. Rounding out the evening, guests will have the opportunity to open their wallets for this year’s Fund the Need initiative to directly support an exciting education program expansion to be revealed at the event. While at Elachee, guests may also visit the traveling bat exhibit, tour the Elachee Nature Preschool and walk the grounds to see what’s new.

“I enjoy Flights of Fancy because it feels good to be able to support Elachee and bid on the types of items that really appeal to me,” explains Robbie McCormac, who has for years served on the Flights committee and is an Elachee Advisory Board member. “The fact that guests attend and support the event year after year is a testament to the incredible effort of the volunteers who give so much time to make this an event that’s not stuffy, but fun and different.”

Event Co-Chair and Elachee Advisory Board Member Cindy Gay sums it up, saying, “I’m all about children, nature and learning, and love Elachee. I’ve been part of this event since it started. It’s so much fun to work on, get the items for the event and then see how much fun all the guests are having celebrating my three favorite things.”

Flights of Fancy general seating tickets are $65, and include dinner and the beverage bar. Limited reserved seating sponsorships packages are still available and range from $750 up to $2,500.
