Fun, Games and Camaraderie

During the Camp Elachee's nine weeks of themed summer day camps, children unplug and learn where nature is the adventure – outside!

“How often do kids get to choose?” questions Kristin Love, Camp Elachee 2017 Counselor. “Here, campers get a choice in the direction they want their day to go.” Unlike many other camps that have every minute planned out, “at Camp Elachee we weave in an unstructured component and encourage inventive play.”

Camp Elachee is the 2017 Best of Hall summer camp.

Camp Elachee, Elachee Nature Science Center’s longest running program which began nearly 40 years ago, has been named 2017 Best of Hall Summer Day Camp by the readers of The Gainesville Times. And with good reason.

Today, children are bombarded with technology. While important, practical know-how and skills can never be replaced with the latest gadget. Camp Elachee promises lessons in the natural world wrapped up in fun, games and camaraderie.

Just ask Colin Reid. This rising 1st grader wrote a note that read, “My favorite season is summer because I get to go to Camp Elachee.”

Meet the Camp Elachee 2017 CounselorsMiss Kristin is one of a stellar crew of Camp Elachee counselors who hit the ground running this week as the first week of the 2017 summer camp season kicked off with record registration. This group is made up of college students pursuing biology, engineering and child development degrees at Brenau University, Georgia Tech and University of North Georgia, along with a high school teacher, a preschool teacher and two Elachee Naturalists.

In fact, Camp Elachee 2017 registration is running well ahead of years' past, so parents, don't delay in getting your camper registered as soon as possible.

Plus, Camp Elachee is a proving ground for future leaders. Nearly 60 percent of the high-school age Counselors-in-Training are Camp Elachee veterans, still making this experience part of their summer breaks.
