Sylwester is Elachee’s Volunteer Historian. He leads a team of other Elachee volunteers who together have been compiling, organizing and creating an archival structure to document Elachee’s verbal, published and media history since the organization’s founding nearly 40 years ago.

Shortly after arriving in the Gainesville community, Sylwester presented the concept for what has now become an annual lifelong learning program, the Historical Hikes Series. Sylwester concluded the program’s third consecutive year last fall. He developed and launched multi-session hike and lecture series to explore the impact of historical figures and their decisions on the local environment.

Elachee life long learning program series, Historical Hikes, created by 2017 Volunteer of the Year, Dr. Sylwester Ratowt.Sylwester joins an impressive group of stellar volunteers – individuals, community leaders and nature lovers who have also committed so many years of service to help Elachee fulfill its mission to promote environmental understanding through education and conservation.
