What we've been up to at Elachee lately...Camp Elachee, ready, set, GO!

What We’ve Been Doing at Elachee


  • Witnessing an increase in the numbers of students taking part in Elachee’s hands-on, brains-on environmental education programs from 32,810
    last school year to 34,473 this year.


  • Increasing the number of campers served in our popular day camp, Camp Elachee, from 670 in 2008
    to a projected 780 in 2009.


  • Completing restoration on 5,600 linear feet of creeks to date in the Chicopee Woods Nature
    Preserve and continuing aggressive removal of
    exotic invasive plants
    .

  • Celebrating the recent successful passage
    of SPLOST VI
    with funding to fence a
    portion of the preserve, build an elevated
    trail to connect our pervious-surfaced trail
    parking lot and the main campus, and install
    educational “Gardens that Teach” on our
    grounds.

  • Conduction a self-study in preparation for
    our 2nd re-accreditation visit by SACS
    (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools)
    in November 2009.

  • Making significant updates to our
    Strategic Plan
    for the organization.


  • Celebrating the receipt of a very generous
    gift of $250,000 to our endowment fund from
    The Shirley Family Foundation.


  • Reducing expenses by 8% to meet funding
    and income levels.

  • Snake Day 2009 is September 12th
    from 10 am – 2 pm


  • Elachee’s NightFall Family Halloween Festival Saturday October 24th and Friday, October 30th from 6 -9 pm, complete with night hikes, crafts and costumed naturalists.

  • Safari 2009 Benefit Auction and Diner slated
    for Saturday, September 19th
    from 6 -10 pm.
    Music, trips, art, and great items galore in the live
    and silent auctions, seated dinner, and more.
    Individual tickets and sponsor tables available. Donations are welcome!

  • Winter in the Woods Holiday Celebration on Saturday, December 12th from 11 am to 2 pm.
    Hikes, games, crafts, cookie decorating and singing. Fun for the whole family!



 
  • Watch for news on a Fall 2009 Elachee 30th
    Anniversary event!

  • Mark your calendars for Elachee’s first ever
    Eco-Challenge event: The Chicopee Woods
    Trillium Trek, on Saturday, May 15th, 2010.
