What We’ve Been Doing at Elachee
- Witnessing an increase in the numbers of students taking part in Elachee’s hands-on, brains-on environmental education programs from 32,810
last school year to 34,473 this year.
- Increasing the number of campers served in our popular day camp, Camp Elachee, from 670 in 2008
to a projected 780 in 2009.
- Completing restoration on 5,600 linear feet of creeks to date in the Chicopee Woods Nature
Preserve and continuing aggressive removal of
exotic invasive plants.

- Celebrating the recent successful passage
of SPLOST VI with funding to fence a
portion of the preserve, build an elevated
trail to connect our pervious-surfaced trail
parking lot and the main campus, and install
educational “Gardens that Teach” on our
grounds.
- Making significant updates to our
Strategic Plan for the organization.
- Celebrating the receipt of a very generous
gift of $250,000 to our endowment fund from
The Shirley Family Foundation.
- Reducing expenses by 8% to meet funding
and income levels.
